6 year Anniversary of Steamless CS Project
Posted on January 3 @ 5:28 PM by Sl@y3D for my n@me
Yes, it's true. We are celebrating the 6th anniversary of the Steamless CS Project!

Started around December 2003 by Warf!y to cover the future of WON after Valve announced it's demise, starting as a solution to keep playing Counter-Strike 1.5, and has expanded over the years to become a network of thousands of players, comprising several different Half-Life mods. And after 6 years, we are still going strong!

Considering 6 years is a hell of a long time to be around, we will certainly be celebrating in style! A party is planned for the spring (no, really this time! <img src=" title="Razz" /> ) and a number of projects are planned for this new year. Watch this space to find out what we have been cooking up. Continue watching this space to find out when the party is.

Since you're here, I'll let you in on a secret. One such project that is currently being developed is the PlanetWON2 Link. If you have been in the blog section lately you might find that name familiar. It's an application designed to download and update mods, get news, download patches, and much more. Well, that's as much as I'll reveal for now. You'll just have to wait for the grand release, coming soon. <img src=" title="Wink" />

So, happy birthday to the Steamless CS Project, continuing to cover the future of WON 6 years later! Oh, doesn't it make you feel old? <img src=" title="Razz" />

FileFront is closing, moddb links will be unavailable
Posted on March 25 @ 8:20 PM by rguest
*UPDATE #2*
Well, it seems to be official. FileFront is changing hands, but will remain operational. Let's hope it stays that way.
*/UPDATE #2*

*UPDATE*
FileFront is still running, though word is various links are down. The good news in a group from the FileFront forums have backed up everything hosted on FileFront and have plans to host them all elsewhere. It's not ready yet (check ModDB for updates on this BTW), but it seems that we're not going to lose much.
*/UPDATE*

FileFront is closing its doors on March 30th.

FileFront hosts just about every download link moddb has to offer, and its departure will wipe clean a lot of mods. You have until the 30th to archive anything you want, so get downloading, archivers.

Planet Won2 wiki is open for business.
Posted on March 15 @ 10:12 PM by rguest
Planet Won2, currently owned by Transistor and always a nice place to visit, now has a wiki. Yeah, that's right, a wiki. Wikis rock.

Link to wiki

No more must you search the internet for dated links and obsolete information, or at least, no more once we get all of that data out in the open. Currently I and a few others have been cataloging mods. And there are a ton. I'd also like to begin creating mapping, modeling, and/or modding tutorials within the wiki. Fun!

So visit the wiki and edit today. Anonymous editing is allowed if you can read CAPTCHA. The only page currently protected is the main page. We'll play vandalism by ear. Right now, the wiki is pretty sparse, and some parts are unpolished. Of course, it's a wiki. YOU can help fix that!

Steamless CS Project's 5th Anniversary
Posted on December 27 @ 2:58 PM by Warf!y
Yes sir. Today, it's Steamless CS Project's 5th birthday!

Like always, and especially now, we're not letting that pass just like that. While you were eating cake and getting yourselves drunk during Christmas, we have worked hard behind the scenes to get our completely redesigned site ready (Well, not really. Actually that was before Christmas, and we need a couple of days more to work on it because the beer kept getting in the way.)

So, what's an anniversary without having a party? We were actually planning to set the party for today, but since this is our fifth birthday, we wanted to give everyone a chance to join. For this we'll setup two polls, one where you can vote for the party date, and one where you can vote for games to play. Links to those polls will be added below shortly.

Stay tuned and be sure not to miss out on our party!
